I realize we've already covered some of this and I have it in my notes. But if you'd like to repeat or elaborate more, please do so. I've been known to miss a thing or two. who me? lol.

Feel free to post your responses here or through pm. You can also email me at katieswoolfood@yahoo.com

6. Do you think items should be labeled or separated to make them clearly identified? ex; labeling the roving vs batting. individually packaging the rovings, etc.

Instructions and application.
note, I'll be adding page numbers and using only commercially dyed roving based on the responses and results so far.

PostSubject: more thoughts....   Wed Sep 17, 2008 7:56 pm

So I have just completed the leaves -
will post pictures later

My green apple had a little warping - I think it might have been from lack of needle felting -
I tried my best and then washed it ( I think I washed it twice)

page 14 - leaf finishing -
at the bottom it says "out through the bottom"
I think you should add - out through the bottom of the fruit

Packaging and shipping.

1. What were your thoughts on the packaging? I liked the packaging, very neat and "kit" looking

2. Did your kit arrive in good shape? yes

3. Is there anything you think I should do that would improve upon the packaging? I think having the needles in a seperate baggie and the maybe taped into the book or something would be good, dh had to find mine after he opened the kit and dropped them on the floor

Contents

4. Was everything in your kit? yes

5. Would you prefer a checklist, separate from the first page of the instructional book?
I don't think it is really necessary
6. Do you think items should be labeled or separated to make them clearly identified? ex; labeling the roving vs batting. individually packaging the rovings, etc.I personally didn't have any problems but I know that some people would get the kits for gifts and so it may be something to consider. My only problem with it is that it will add to cost and also there will be more trash at the end of making them.

Instructions and application.
note, I'll be adding page numbers and using only commercially dyed roving based on the responses and results so far.

7. Would a table of contents be helpful? It could be done but I think that it is easy enough to find the pages you are looking at, it isn't a HUGE book to go through.

8. Should there be a bit of an introduction about the two processes of wet-felting? Hand vs machine. Yes I knew nothing about felting before this project

9. Were the instructions easy to understand and follow? Yes even dh thought so

10. Was there any step that would benefit from more pictures or written instruction?
I didn't have any problems, I think that even my pre teen siblings would have been able to understand your instructions.

11. Did you have enough materials? Yes

12. Were you pleased with your results? The first one was a bit rough but the other 2 were better, but that was more on me learning the process

General

13. Have you ever felted before? wet or needle? no

14. Did you find it helpful or reassuring to have access to forums? I didn't have a chance to really use them as I have been so busy

15. Would help forums be a welcome extra with the kit? Or make it more likely for you to purchase in the first place? I think it would be a fun thing for people that are making the items to all join together, then there would be a place to ask for help if they didn't understand something and it would probably save you a lot of the same questions over and over again.

16. I don't really know if this is a legal question or not but I'm going to ask it any way. Would you feel like you got your money's worth paying 25.00 for a kit like this? I think that the kit is totally worth 25.00 and that you would definatly sell them at that price.

17. Any last thoughts? I want to thank you for the opprotunity to try something new. It was a fun thing to do to get away from knitting for a little while.
Hugs
Jessica

Packaging and shipping.

1. What were your thoughts on the packaging?

I really liked it. My first impression was "Wow." Everything was so tidy and organized.

2. Did your kit arrive in good shape?

Yes.

3. Is there anything you think I should do that would improve upon the packaging?

N/a.

Contents

4. Was everything in your kit?

Yes.

5. Would you prefer a checklist, separate from the first page of the instructional book?

No.

6. Do you think items should be labeled or separated to make them clearly identified? ex; labeling the roving vs batting. individually packaging the rovings, etc.

No, I think the photos were sufficient.

Instructions and application.
note, I'll be adding page numbers and using only commercially dyed roving based on the responses and results so far.

7. Would a table of contents be helpful?

I don't think it's necessary.

8. Should there be a bit of an introduction about the two processes of wet-felting? Hand vs machine.

Perhaps a definition of wet-felting (as compared to other types of felting) might be useful. I remember being taken a little aback by the phrase, as it came out of nowhere.

9. Were the instructions easy to understand and follow?

Yes. There could be a little more description of what your item should look like after each step. I didn't know anything about felting before I got the kit, and I wasn't sure how I knew when I was finished with needle felting, for example.

10. Was there any step that would benefit from more pictures or written instruction?

When I put my balled-up batting inside the other piece of batting and formed a pouch, I ended up with a lot of loose batting at the top of the pouch because I was using it to hold onto the ball as I needle-felted. I wasn't sure what to do with it, so I cut it off. Was I supposed to do that, or was I supposed to work the excess into the ball? The photo wasn't clear.

11. Did you have enough materials?

Yes.

12. Were you pleased with your results?

Yes! Much easier than I expected it to be.

General

13. Have you ever felted before? wet or needle?

No.

14. Did you find it helpful or reassuring to have access to forums?

Yes, though I ended up not using them because I didn't want to turn on the computer. I decided just to forge ahead and see what happened.

15. Would help forums be a welcome extra with the kit? Or make it more likely for you to purchase in the first place?

I think pattern support is always a good feature to include.

16. I don't really know if this is a legal question or not but I'm going to ask it any way. Would you feel like you got your money's worth paying 25.00 for a kit like this?

Hm. I would certainly pay $15 plus shipping. At $25, I might just wait for you to stock the items.

17. Any last thoughts?

You were right to emphasize the "don't take your eyes off the needle" advice. The first (and only) time I took my eyes off the needle, I think to read the instruction booklet, I stabbed myself.

The booklet was extremely attractive; I wasn't expecting such a nice publication. I might print the pages double-sided.

I wanted to add that $15 for the kit would be an easy impulse buy. It isn't to say that I wouldn't buy it at $25, especially if the kit emphasized that I would be set up with all the tools I would need for future projects. Just that I'd probably think about it for a bit before hitting Buy It Now.

It might also be helpful to include links to felting web sites, where I could get ideas for other patterns.

Thanks again for the opportunity to test, Katie!

I'm almost done with my questionnaire and will email it to you shortly. Hopefully tonight (although I have guests in town, so no promises). Smile

Just wanted to make sure you didn't think I had forgotten about things.
